How Long Does It Take?EEG Neurofeedback Therapy is a learning process and, therefore, results are seen gradually. Individual results will depend upon a variety of conditions. For most people, changes can be seen in 5 - 10 sessions. People generally average between 20 and 40 total sessions. The results are often dependent upon age, conditions, and severity of symptoms. Sessions are held once a week and sometimes twice a week for 45 minutes. The session includes counseling to address specific issues that may impeding progress. The more frequently a person trains, the more rapid the change.
It is not possible to predict with certainty that Neurofeedback Therapy will be successful for a particular condition any more than an MD could guarantee results with medication or an operation. Neurofeedback Therapy can also be effective as an adjunct to medication management where side effects or raising a dose may not be possible. For most conditions, there are no permanent adverse side effects noted with Neurofeedback Therapy. Successful treatment usually prevents recurrence of the condition.
