EEG Neurofeedback Therapy
What is Neurofeedback Therapy?
EEG Neurofeedback Therapy is a therapeutic learning technique that enables a person to change the way their brain works. The training can effect control of mood disorders like anxiety and depression, or problems with regulating the central nervous system such as ADD/ADHD, pain management, stress-related problems, or anger - just to name a few. It helps the brain to learn to produce a calm but alert state in the body and mind. Essentially, the brain learns to maintain an optimal-performance state. This results in the person feeling more in control, calmer, more alert, and more capable of managing daily stressors.

How Is It Done?
During an initial interview, a comprehensive individual and family health history will be obtained. Any previous tests, school reports, and medical records will be helpful to bring with you.  The process of Neurofeedback Therapy will be explained to you and a treatment plan will be developed.

During your second session, you will sit in a comfortable chair, and Dr. Howell will place sensors on your scalp to monitor your brain's electrical activity. The brain activity is displayed on a computer screen and is monitored by Dr. Howell. Adjustments are made to establish goals for your brain to achieve. On a second computer monitor, a video game shows you what your brain is doing. You will control the game with your brain activity and your brain actually learns which responses make the game work.  As your brain practices the new activity, it learns to use it in your every day life. By making information available to you (feedback), you can train your brain to work more effectively.
